A man in Bengaluru was fired from his job after threatening to throw acid at a woman over her choice of clothes in a social media post. The man, identified as Nikith Shetty, lost his job after the woman’s husband, journalist Shahbaz Ansar, lodged a complaint and shared a screenshot of the threat on Instagram.
Shahbaz Ansar tweeted, “This is serious. @DgpKarnataka, @CMofKarnataka, @DKShivakumar, this person is threatening to throw acid on my wife‘s face for her choice of clothes. Immediate action is needed to prevent any incident.” He tagged the Karnataka DGP, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar in his tweet.
Later, Shahbaz shared a follow-up tweet, confirming that Nikith Shetty had been fired by Etios Services. “The man who threatened my wife @KhyatiShree_ with an acid attack has been fired. The company acted promptly and removed him. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen,” he wrote.
In response to the incident, Etios Services issued a public statement on Instagram, expressing deep sadness over the “unacceptable” behavior of Nikith Shetty. “We are deeply saddened by the actions of one of our employees, Nikith Shetty, who made a threatening statement regarding another individual’s choice of clothing. Such behavior is intolerable and goes against the values we uphold at Etios Services,” the company stated.
The company also confirmed that a case had been filed against Shetty, stating, “As a company committed to fostering a safe and respectful environment, immediate action has been taken. Nikith’s employment has been terminated for five years, and we have filed a case against him to ensure accountability.”
The company reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe workplace, “At Etios Services, we believe in promoting respect and dignity for all. We stand firmly against harassment or violence of any kind and will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure this standard is upheld.”
