Aakhir Tak – In Depth
In Bangladesh, Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and 17 others are facing sedition charges. The case is based on an October 25 incident where a saffron flag was allegedly raised higher than the national flag in Chattogram’s New Market area. The organizers claim that the disputed flag was an Islamist one, not the national flag. The withdrawal deadline for the case is set for Monday.
Brahmachari argued that the case is an attempt to eliminate the leadership advocating for minority rights. He highlighted that for the past 53 years, Sanatanis have faced atrocities in Bangladesh, irrespective of which party was in power.
The sedition case was filed amidst large rallies by Hindu organizations advocating an eight-point demand, including a minority protection law and the creation of a minority affairs ministry. The case was lodged by Firoz Khan, a BNP leader who has since been expelled by the party.
Brahmachari emphasized that the Hindu community must stay unified in this struggle. He believes that this case poses a larger question for Bangladeshi society to ensure minority protection.
