Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
A stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus on Sunday injured at least 10 people, with two in critical condition. Police and railway officials reported that passengers attempted to board a moving train amid the festive rush. A viral video shows crowds frantically trying to board the Gorakhpur-bound train, with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and local travelers rushing the injured to Bhabha Hospital.
With Diwali and Chhath approaching, a massive crowd gathered at Bandra Terminus as people headed to their hometowns. The incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. when unreserved passengers scrambled to secure seats on the 22921 Bandra-Gorakhpur Antyodaya Express, which was moving onto platform 1.
Festival seasons often lead to such situations, as reservations are unavailable on unreserved trains. Social media was flooded with videos depicting chaos, with passengers injured, shouting, and bloodied. Opposition leaders criticized Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray questioning his ability to manage railway safety, calling him a “reel minister.” NCP leader Clyde Crasto also called it a failure of the Railways Ministry.
