Ayodhya Gangrape Accused’s Troubling Past Unveiled
The arrest of Mohammad Moid Khan, a prominent Samajwadi Party (SP) leader, has shed light on his controversial past. Accused of raping a minor in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Khan’s arrest is a significant development in a case that has stirred local and national interest. This article delves into Khan’s criminal background, his connections with powerful figures, and the ongoing investigations into his alleged illegal activities.
Criminal Background and Arrest
Mohammad Moid Khan, a key functionary in the Samajwadi Party, has been apprehended for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Ayodhya. This arrest marks the first serious legal action against him in over a decade. Khan’s history of criminal activities includes involvement in communal riots and land grabs, which had previously shielded him from legal repercussions.
Communal Riots and Land Seizures
Khan’s criminal activities are not new. Notably, on October 24, 2012, during a Durga Puja procession in Bhadrasa, a severe communal riot erupted. The riot, which targeted a Hindu procession and resulted in the murder of Bhola Gupta, was allegedly incited by Khan and Mohammed Ahmed. Despite being jailed following an FIR, Khan’s influence ensured that law enforcement’s actions against him were limited.
In addition to his involvement in riots, Khan’s rise to power allowed him to seize lands from both government and private owners. His connections with Mohammed Ahmed, the former chairman of Bhadrasa Municipal Council, facilitated his ascent in the political arena. Under Ahmed’s protection, Khan amassed substantial wealth and control over various properties.
Current Investigations and Property Seizures
Following Khan’s recent arrest, authorities have begun investigating his extensive property holdings. Reports indicate that Khan’s influence extended to acquiring government land and properties of impoverished individuals. The Revenue Department has identified several of his properties, including a shopping complex with a private bank, for demolition due to illegal occupation.
Dalit families have come forward with allegations of land seizures by Khan, adding to the scrutiny surrounding his activities. The district administration is now examining Khan’s assets, including those reportedly purchased with overseas earnings from his relatives. Properties under Khan’s name and those of his associates are being scrutinized in light of these allegations.
Mohammad Moid Khan’s arrest has unveiled a troubling past marked by violence, illegal land seizures, and political influence. As investigations continue, the focus remains on his extensive network and the legality of his accumulated wealth. The case highlights the challenges of holding influential figures accountable and underscores the importance of judicial action in cases of serious allegations.
