Aakhir Tak – In Depth
BJP leader Anurag Thakur has claimed that Atishi’s celebratory dance after retaining her Kalkaji Assembly seat was not just about her victory but a reaction to Arvind Kejriwal’s failed attempt to “engineer her defeat”. Thakur alleged that Kejriwal deliberately sidelined his own party leaders, including Atishi, but in a dramatic turn of events, she won while he suffered a humiliating loss. Atishi’s win was a major blow to Kejriwal.
Speaking to India Today TV in Lucknow, Thakur said Kejriwal systematically eliminated those who helped build AAP, starting with Anna Hazare, then removing the party’s founding members. Kejriwal’s plot is now coming to light. The internal dynamics of AAP are under scrutiny.
“Look at the politics of Arvind Kejriwal. He came into politics by climbing upon the shoulders of Anna Hazare, finished him off, then formed his own party. He then finished off the founding members of his party,” Thakur said. Kejriwal has been accused of plotting against many.
Atishi was among the few AAP leaders who secured a win, while the party suffered major setbacks in the Delhi Assembly elections. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and several other senior leaders lost their seats as the BJP secured a landslide victory. Atishi’s win was a significant event amidst the losses. The Delhi elections have exposed deep rifts within AAP.
Thakur alleged that Kejriwal and his associates attempted to weaken Atishi’s campaign by excluding her name from banners, posters, and the overall election strategy. Kejriwal allegedly orchestrated a plot to defeat Atishi. The BJP is seizing on the internal conflict within AAP.
“Atishi ji’s name was missing from the election banner, poster, and the entire campaign. Attempts were made to defeat her in her assembly constituency, and that is why you saw her dance in the leaked video,” he said. Atishi’s win and subsequent celebration were a direct response to these efforts.
He further said that Atishi was celebrating Kejriwal’s downfall, much like the people of Delhi. Public sentiment towards Kejriwal has shifted.
“Atishi was expressing her happiness over the defeat of the former chief minister and former deputy chief minister like other Delhiites,” Thakur added. This is fuelling speculation about a deeper power struggle within AAP.
He also accused Kejriwal of attempting to shift the blame for the liquor policy case onto Manish Sisodia, despite being the “kingpin” himself. “They wanted to put the blame of the liquor scam on Sisodia, but we had said even then that Kejriwal is the kingpin. The court punished him, and he is currently on bail,” Thakur said. Kejriwal’s alleged involvement in the liquor policy case continues to haunt him.
Commenting on the growing rift within AAP, Thakur hinted that the leaked video showing Atishi dancing was an early sign of internal rebellion within the party. Atishi’s win and Kejriwal’s plot have exposed divisions within the party.
“The one who was trying to finish his own people internally, that gentleman himself got finished. Now, how loud will be the rebellious tones, wait for a few more days. Because this dance that you have seen is not just about winning one assembly seat. It was an indication in this direction-that you have put in a lot of effort, now let’s see what happens next,” he said. The future of AAP remains uncertain.
