Assam Prisonbreak: 5 Inmates Escape Using Lungis and Blankets
Five prisoners, incarcerated under the Pocso Act, escaped from Assam’s Morigaon District Jail on Friday night. The inmates cleverly used lungis, bedsheets, and blankets to climb the 20-foot-high prison wall and evade security. The daring jailbreak has put local authorities on high alert, sparking concern over the jail’s security measures.
The escapees have been identified as Saifuddin, Jiarul Islam, Nur Islam, Mafidul, and Abdul Rashid. All of them were serving time for offenses under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. This incident has led to a district-wide alert as authorities scramble to recapture the fugitives.
Morigaon District Jail is managed by Superintendent Prashanta Saikia, while the overall administration is supervised by Additional Deputy Commissioner Pallavi Kachari. A large-scale manhunt has been initiated in response to the escape, and security measures have been tightened across the region to prevent further incidents.
Investigations are underway to understand how the prisoners coordinated their escape and executed the plan with such precision. Authorities are focusing on identifying potential security lapses and ensuring that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
