Ahead of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that Article 370 is a part of history and will never return. Speaking at the launch of the BJP’s poll manifesto, Shah emphasized that Article 370, which once granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, has become history and will not make a comeback.
Amit Shah on Article 370 and J&K Assembly Elections
The manifesto outlines a new vision for the region, including the creation of a major tourist hub near Rajouri and several tourist centers in Jammu. Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming Jammu and Kashmir from “max terrorism to max tourism” over the past decade.
Key Points from BJP’s Manifesto
The manifesto promises the development of a new tourist hub near Rajouri, which is expected to generate over 5 lakh jobs in the valley. Additionally, the BJP aims to create tourist centers in Jammu, enhancing the region’s appeal to visitors. The party has also pledged to focus on the welfare of displaced communities, including the Kashmiri Pandits.
Rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits
Shah announced the launch of the Tika Lal Taploo Visthapit Samaj Puranvas Yojana (TLTVPY) to ensure the safe return and rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandit community. This initiative aims to address long-standing concerns about the safety and resettlement of the displaced population.
Eradication of Terrorism
One of the manifesto’s bold promises is the complete eradication of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Shah stated that a white paper would be issued to assign responsibility for the emergence of terrorism, marking a significant step towards holding those involved accountable.
Opposition Criticism and Call for Accountability
Lashing out at the opposition, Shah accused other political parties of indulging in appeasement politics, which he claimed was responsible for fostering separatism in the region. Shah criticized the National Conference’s poll manifesto and questioned Congress’s support for it, urging Rahul Gandhi to clarify his stance.
Jammu and Kashmir: A Decade of Transformation
Shah commended the government’s efforts from 2014 to 2024, a period he described as one that will be written in golden words when the history of India and Jammu and Kashmir is recounted. He highlighted the progress made in restoring peace in the valley and dismantling the terror ecosystem.
Upcoming Elections
The upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir are significant as they will be the first since the scrapping of Article 370. The elections will be conducted in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with results expected on October 8.
