A shocking incident in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has raised serious questions about law and order in the state. Two Army officers of Major rank, undergoing training at the Army War College in Mhow, were assaulted along with their two female friends while on a picnic in the Jam Gate area on Wednesday. One of the women was brutally gang-raped by armed miscreants.
Detailed Account of the Incident:
The incident took place when the officers and their friends went out for a picnic in the Mhow Cantonment’s Jam Gate area. As they reached the spot, six armed men surrounded their car, assaulting the officers and their friends. The attackers were armed with pistols, knives, and sticks, and they snatched their wallets and other valuable items.
The miscreants took one officer and one woman hostage, demanding a ransom of ₹10 lakh for their release. The released officer immediately informed his Commanding Officer, who alerted the police. The police arrived at the scene, but the attackers fled. The victims were taken to Mhow Civil Hospital for medical examination, where it was confirmed that one of the women had been gang-raped.
Arrests and Investigation:
Indore police arrested two suspects in connection with the case, while teams are actively pursuing the remaining accused. SP Hitika Vasal of Indore confirmed the arrests and assured that efforts were underway to capture the rest of the perpetrators.
Opposition Criticism:
Following the incident, Opposition leaders fiercely criticized the Madhya Pradesh government. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called the state’s law enforcement “almost non-existent,” condemning the attack on the Army officers and the rape of their companion. Priyanka Gandhi termed the incident as heart-wrenching, questioning the government’s failure to protect women.
