Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
The Leader of Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council, Botsa Satyanarayana, has held the government accountable for the 16 diarrhoea-related deaths in Vizianagaram district. During a press conference in Visakhapatnam, he demanded immediate ex-gratia payments to the victims’ families and urged the government to declare the affected villages as “Red Zones.” Satyanarayana emphasized the urgent need for clean drinking water and the establishment of medical camps to prevent further casualties.
He criticized the government for providing inconsistent data on the death toll. The district collector reported one death, while Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu mentioned eight deaths, and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan reported ten. Satyanarayana accused the government of mismanagement and called for clarity from the Chief Minister regarding measures to prevent future outbreaks.
Satyanarayana also questioned the relevance of Pawan Kalyan’s visit to Rushikonda during this health crisis in Gurlamandal. He alleged that Kalyan’s visit was a diversionary tactic to shift focus from the diarrhoea outbreak. He suggested that concerns regarding construction in Rushikonda should be addressed through proper investigation rather than diverting attention from this public health emergency.
