Cocaine worth Rs 10 crore has been seized in Amritsar, linked to the Rs 5,620 crore drug bust in Delhi. A Toyota Fortuner was also confiscated during the raid conducted in a village near Amritsar, close to the Nepal border. The raid followed a tip-off from Jitendra Pal Singh, a UK resident arrested in Amritsar on October 4 in connection with the Delhi drug case.
On October 2, the Delhi Police made one of the largest drug busts, seizing 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, valued at approximately Rs 5,620 crore. The marijuana is believed to have originated from Phuket, Thailand, and was brought to India via air. The cocaine was sourced from West Asia and various Indian states. The accused used cryptocurrency for transactions and sold the drugs at concerts, rave parties, and upscale localities.
Five individuals, including Tushar Goyal (40), Jitendra Pal Singh (40), Himanshu Kumar (27), Aurangzeb Siddiqui (23), and Bharat Kumar Jain (48), were arrested, with Goyal identified as the mastermind.
Goyal’s connection with the Congress party has stirred political controversy, with BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, criticizing the opposition. Goyal’s purported Facebook profile states that he was the Chairman of the Delhi Pradesh RTI Cell of the Indian Youth Congress. However, the Indian Youth Congress clarified that Goyal was expelled from the organization in October 2022 for anti-party activities.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi took a jab at Congress, accusing the party of pushing the youth toward drug addiction and using that money to win elections. Amit Shah alleged that Congress had turned North India into a hotspot for illegal drug trade when it was in power before 2014.
