National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is set to visit Russia this week to participate in the BRICS-NSA meeting and engage in discussions on peace efforts amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. During his visit from September 10 to 11, Doval will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they will deliberate on strategies aimed at resolving the ongoing war in Ukraine, sources revealed.
Doval’s visit holds significant importance as it follows recent tensions and global discussions surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war. He is expected to hold bilateral meetings with his Russian and Chinese counterparts, furthering the discussions initiated during the July summit in Moscow. The BRICS-NSA meeting, an informal gathering of ten nations including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, serves as a crucial platform for these talks.
Ajit Doval’s participation in the BRICS-NSA meeting highlights India’s proactive role in global peacekeeping efforts. During his telephonic conversation with Russian President Putin last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of peace and announced Doval’s upcoming visit to Moscow to explore new avenues for ending the conflict.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi made headlines during his visit to Ukraine, where he reassured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that “dialogue and diplomacy” are essential to ending the war. Modi offered India’s support for mediation between Russia and Ukraine, asserting, “India was never neutral in this war; we are on the side of peace.”
The visit by NSA Doval is seen as a continuation of India’s peace mission. His engagements with Putin and other officials will be closely watched by the global community, as India seeks to bridge gaps and bring a diplomatic end to the conflict.
