For the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have appointed former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as their new mentor. This announcement follows Gautam Gambhir’s resignation from the mentor role to take up the position of head coach for the Indian national team.
Dwayne Bravo, who was previously associated with Chennai Super Kings, will now take on this new role with KKR. He announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, September 27, due to a groin injury that disrupted his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore confirmed that Bravo will also be working with other franchises in the Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket (MLC), and ILT20. Mysore stated, “DJ Bravo joining us is a very exciting development. His deep desire to win and his extensive experience will immensely benefit our franchise and all players.”
Although Bravo has only played for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, he has a long association with KKR, having played the majority of his CPL career with the Trinbago Knight Riders. He also served as the bowling coach for the Super Kings in 2022 and 2023.
Throughout his illustrious career, Bravo has made significant contributions to T20 cricket. He is the highest wicket-taker in T20 history, claiming 631 wickets in 582 matches. Bravo led the Trinbago Knight Riders to back-to-back CPL titles in 2017 and 2018 and guided the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their first CPL title in 2021.
