In Lebanon, a tragic explosion involving walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah resulted in the deaths of 9 people, with over 300 injured. The devices, purchased five months ago by Hezbollah, exploded just a day after a similar incident involving pagers.
The explosion occurred in Lebanon’s southern region and in the suburbs of the capital Beirut. Notably, one of the blasts took place near a funeral organized by Hezbollah for those killed the day before in the pager blasts.
Hezbollah’s leadership described the explosion as an “Israeli breach” of its communication systems. According to internal security forces, multiple wireless communication devices detonated across the country, with a majority in Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut.
The devices were reportedly rigged by Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, which planted explosives in pagers and walkie-talkies imported by Hezbollah. Despite claims, Taiwanese manufacturer Gold Apollo denied involvement, stating that the pagers were made under license by a Hungarian company named BAC.
In retaliation for the attacks, Hezbollah fired rockets at Israeli artillery positions, marking an escalation in tensions between Hezbollah and Israel. The latest developments raise the prospect of a broader conflict in the region.
