Congress MP Rahul Gandhi took a sharp dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his statement about talking to God, describing it as a sign of “psychological collapse” and a lack of confidence.
During his three-day visit to the U.S., Rahul Gandhi spoke at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where he recounted an incident from the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign. Modi had claimed that he was chosen by God for a purpose and that God directs his actions. Gandhi said, “When he said, ‘I speak directly to God,’ we knew that we had actually blown him apart. And that the psychology had gone.”
According to Gandhi, Modi’s confidence began to unravel as the election campaign progressed. He remarked, “Early on, he realized that this thing’s going wrong. We were getting inputs from regular sources, and it was pretty clear they were in trouble.”
Gandhi claimed that the ruling NDA coalition has collapsed and is deeply fractured. “It’s not just about the Prime Minister; it’s deeper than that. The coalition that brought Mr. Modi to power has collapsed. It’s broken right down the middle,” he said.
He also questioned the fairness of the Lok Sabha elections, alleging that the BJP crippled the Congress financially by freezing its bank accounts and that the Election Commission was biased in favor of the ruling party. “I don’t see it as a free election. I see it as a heavily controlled election,” Gandhi asserted.
The Congress MP launched a series of pointed attacks against the BJP while speaking at various events in the U.S. He also addressed religious freedom in India, noting that his fight was about whether Sikhs can wear a turban in the country or not.
Rahul Gandhi interacted with members of the Indian community in Dallas, Texas, and is scheduled to meet with American lawmakers and officials during his Washington D.C. stopover today.
