Tragic Deaths at Delhi IAS Coaching Centre Prompt Arrests and Crackdown

The Delhi Police have registered a case against the coaching centre’s owner and coordinator under Sections 105, 106(1), 115/2, 290, and 35 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The arrest highlights the serious implications of non-compliance with safety regulations.
Mayor’s Response
In response to the tragedy, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has ordered an immediate crackdown on all coaching centres operating in basements. She directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner to take action against these establishments for violating building bye-laws.

Mayor Oberoi has also called for an inquiry to determine if any MCD officials were negligent in their duties. The aim is to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure strict adherence to building safety norms.
Rescue Operations
The NDRF’s rescue operation lasted seven hours. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), M Harsha Vardhan, confirmed that the operation concluded with the recovery of the three bodies. The police are now reviewing CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
