Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to return to power in Delhi after a 27-year-long wait, suggest Election Commission (EC) trends as votes continue to be counted. The party, which at last count was leading in 47 seats, will now tackle its next big assignment: the new Chief Minister of Delhi. This Delhi Election result is important for everyone.
The Narendra Modi-led party has yet to announce its CM candidate and has focused on campaigning under the leadership of PM Modi. Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned as Delhi CM last year, hoped to reclaim his position. As of today, there is no indication of who the BJP’s CM face might be. Delhi BJP chief Sachdeva, when asked about the CM face on Saturday, stated that the decision will be made by the party’s central leadership. The race for Chief Minister post has now begun in the Delhi Election.
“Our party workers have worked hard. This victory will be the victory of our top leadership. We have contested the election based on the issues of Delhi – but Arvind Kejriwal tried to deviate from the issues,” he said. Arvind Kejriwal (Arvind Kejriwal) is no longer the Chief Minister.
AAP, however, declared BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri as BJP’s CM face. However, BJP maintained that the party’s CM face was yet to be decided. Bidhuri is contesting from Kalkaji seat against Delhi CM Atishi.
“We are here to serve the public, not for any position like CM,” he said when asked about the top post.
While the BJP remains tight-lipped on its CM pick, here are the five probable names the party might consider for the top job in the national capital.
Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma
Former MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma became a prominent figure for the BJP after defeating AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat. Verma, the son of former Delhi CM Sahib Singh Verma, has earned the title of a “giant killer” with this victory, as he managed to break into Kejriwal’s stronghold.
Vijender Gupta
The senior BJP leader has served as Delhi BJP chief and has consistently held the Rohini seat, winning in both 2015 and 2020 despite AAP’s dominance. Gupta also served as leader of the opposition in the Delhi assembly, with his experience and resilience making him a key figure in the party’s leadership calculations.
Majinder Singh Sirsa
Sirsa, the BJP candidate from Rajouri Garden Vidhan Sabha constituency, defeated A Dhanwati Chandela A of AAP in the 2025 Delhi Assembly election. Sirsa is a top name for the Chief Minister post in Delhi as BJP now eyes Punjab after wresting Delhi from AAP.
Dushyant Gautam
BJP’s national general secretary and Dalit leader Dushyant Gautam is also among the frontrunners for the CM’s post. He has been pitted against AAP’s Vishesh Ravi in Karol Bagh seat. He is one of the probable Chief Minister candidates with a ground support in Delhi.
Harish Khurana
The BJP candidate from Moti Nagar constituency was pitted against Aam Aadmi Party’s Shivcharan Goel. Khurana, who is making his electoral debut as the BJP candidate, is the son of senior BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana, who served as the third Chief Minister of Delhi from 1993 to 1996.
Khurana is a secretary of the BJP’s Delhi unit and has served in various roles in the organisation. He is a former convenor of the public relations cell and was also a spokesperson for Delhi BJP.
