On Thursday, the Dibrugarh Express derailed near Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives and injuries to 20 others. Among the survivors, loco pilot Tribhuvan reported hearing an explosion-like sound just before the accident, raising questions about potential sabotage. The Railways is investigating the incident thoroughly.
The derailment occurred between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway stations. Eight bogies of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express went off the tracks, causing chaos and panic. Both loco pilots, fortunately, survived the incident. Tribhuvan’s account of the loud sound prior to the derailment is crucial to the ongoing investigation.
In response to the tragedy, the Ministry of Railways announced an ex-gratia compensation. The families of the deceased will receive Rs 10 lakhs, those with grievous injuries will get Rs 2.5 lakhs, and individuals with minor injuries will receive Rs 50,000. This financial support aims to provide some relief to the victims and their families during this difficult time.
