Two Haryana Independent MLAs Join BJP, Party Tally Reaches 50
Two independent MLAs from Haryana, Rajesh Joon and Devender Kadyan, joined the BJP on Wednesday, raising the party’s seat tally to 50, a day after the BJP’s stunning victory in the state.
Rajesh Joon, Devender Kadyan, and Savitri Jindal reached Delhi earlier today and met Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who played a crucial role in BJP’s Haryana victory.
Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli confirmed that the three Independent MLAs, including Savitri Jindal, had expressed their willingness to support the BJP.
“All three Independent MLAs are very happy with BJP’s victory and are ready to back the party. They are in Delhi, meeting with the high command,” said Badoli.
Rajesh Joon, who contested from Bahadurgarh, defeated BJP’s Dinesh Kaushik by a margin of 41,999 votes. Devender Kadyan, a BJP rebel who contested as an independent, defeated Congress’s Kuldip Sharma by 35,209 votes from Ganaur.
Savitri Jindal, mother of Kurukshetra BJP MP Naveen Jindal, contested as an independent from Hisar and defeated Congress’s Ram Niwas Rara by 18,941 votes.
The BJP scripted a remarkable comeback in the Haryana Assembly elections, winning 48 seats, its best performance since the state’s formation in 1966. The Congress, which was leading in the initial rounds, ended up with 37 seats.
The INLD secured two seats, while the JJP and AAP failed to win any.
Earlier today, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, where Modi praised Saini for leading the party to a third consecutive term victory.
