In a distressing incident at a district council school in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, approximately 80 students were rushed to the hospital after suffering from nausea and vomiting. The students fell ill shortly after consuming biscuits provided at their school on Saturday morning, raising concerns about the safety and quality of food distributed under nutritional programs.
The incident took place at Keket Jalgaon village, where the students began experiencing symptoms around 8:30 a.m. According to local officials, the children were given biscuits as part of their meal at school, which quickly led to adverse reactions.
Upon receiving reports of the students’ condition, the village head, along with other authorities, acted swiftly to ensure the children were transported to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention. The majority of the affected students were treated at a rural hospital, where medical officers confirmed that their condition was stable.
Dr. Babasaheb Ghughe, a medical officer at the hospital, provided more details on the situation, stating, “On Saturday morning, around 8:30 a.m., after consuming biscuits, 257 students reported symptoms of food poisoning. Among them, 153 were brought to the hospital, and some were treated and sent home. However, seven students who developed severe symptoms were transferred to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Civil Hospital for further treatment.”
The school, which has a total of 296 students, is currently under investigation as authorities seek to determine the cause of the food poisoning. The incident has prompted immediate scrutiny of the food safety standards at educational institutions in the region.
This alarming situation highlights the need for rigorous monitoring and quality control measures in school meal programs to prevent such occurrences in the future. The health and safety of students should remain a top priority, and steps must be taken to ensure that food provided in schools meets the highest standards of safety.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities aiming to identify the source of contamination and take necessary actions to prevent similar incidents.
