A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit Assam on Sunday morning. An official bulletin reported that the quake occurred in the Udalguri district at 7:47 AM. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 15 km.
The exact location of the earthquake’s epicenter is about 105 km north of Guwahati and 48 km west of Tezpur, near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. People in neighboring districts, including Darrang, Tamulpur, Sonitpur, Kamrup, and Biswanath, also felt the tremor. The tremor was experienced in Kamrup Metropolitan, Morigaon, and Nagaon on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River as well.
The earthquake was felt in some areas of western Arunachal Pradesh and eastern Bhutan as well. Fortunately, there are no reports of casualties or damage to any property.
The northeastern region falls in a high seismic zone, making earthquakes a frequent occurrence in this area.
