Sharad Pawar’s grandnephew, Yugendra Pawar, is set to contest against his uncle, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has announced the candidature of Yugendra Pawar against his uncle and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in the upcoming Assembly elections. This contest represents a notable twist in the family’s political dynamics. Yugendra Pawar, son of Ajit Pawar’s younger brother Shrinivas, is stepping into this electoral battle.
At just 32 years old, Yugendra was instrumental in Supriya Sule’s successful Lok Sabha campaign, where she defeated her sister-in-law, Sunetra Pawar, by over 150,000 votes. Furthermore, under the mentorship of Sharad Pawar, Yugendra has been steadily solidifying his political base. His recent launch of the Swabhiman Yatra in Baramati exemplifies this growth.
Yugendra also serves as the Treasurer of Vidya Pratishtan, an educational institution established by Pawar. During the previous Lok Sabha elections, he actively campaigned for Supriya Sule while his father, Shrinivas, publicly criticized Ajit Pawar for aligning with the Mahayuti government.
Recently, Yugendra expressed that the people of Baramati remain loyal to Sharad Pawar, stating, “Pawar saheb and people will decide whether I should go to the state assembly.”
The NCP (SP) list includes other significant candidates like state chief Jayant Patil (Islampur), Jitendra Awhad (Mumbra-Kalwa), Anil Deshmukh (Katol), and Rohit Patil (Tasgaon-Kavthemahankal). Maharashtra will hold elections in a single phase on November 20, with results declared on November 23.
