“Aakhir Tak – In Depth”
The Uttar Pradesh government has changed the schedule for the PCS exam following student protests. Now, the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) exam will be conducted in a single day and shift. The announcement was made by UPPSC Secretary Ashok Kumar, who addressed students protesting in Prayagraj.
Why Was the Exam Rescheduled?
Initially, the UPPSC planned to hold the PCS prelims over two shifts on December 7 and 8. Additionally, the RO-ARO exams were set for three shifts on December 22 and 23. However, due to ongoing protests, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed UPPSC to engage with students and adjust the schedule accordingly.
Akhilesh Yadav’s Support
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav backed the students, sharply criticizing the BJP government. “Those who advocate One Nation One Election can’t even conduct exams in a single day in UP,” he stated, pointing out the government’s inefficiency in managing competitive exams.
Police File Case Amid Protests
During the protests, some unruly elements damaged barriers and coaching center signboards, prompting the police to file an FIR against 12 individuals. Authorities reported that some non-student groups may have infiltrated the protests, creating disruptions.
Students’ Ongoing Demands
While the decision brought relief to some students, those preparing for the RO-ARO exams expressed disappointment, vowing to continue their protest. Aspirant Rahul Pandey remarked, “We will continue until there is an official notice regarding the RO-ARO exam.”
Government’s Position
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak emphasized that “decisions will be made in students’ best interests.” He reiterated that the BJP government stands with students and is committed to their welfare.
