Aakhir Tak – In Depth
As tensions rise between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, over the Russia-Ukraine war, Trump launched a scathing attack on Zelenskiy, calling him a “dictator without elections” and warning him to “move fast”. This came just hours after Zelenskiy accused Trump of being trapped in a “disinformation bubble”.
Trump’s Social Media Attack
“He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden “like a fiddle.” A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast, or he is not going to have a Country left,” Trump posted on social media. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has delayed elections that were scheduled for April 2024.
Zelenskyy’s Reaction to Riyadh Talks
The leaders are embroiled in a heated exchange following US-Russia talks in Riyadh on Tuesday, aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war. Zelensky has dismissed the outcome of the meeting, which was held without Ukraine’s involvement. “Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the US and “TRUMP,” will never be able to settle,” Trump attacked Zelenskyy.
Accusations Against Zelenskyy
Trump posted on social media, “Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the “gravy train” going. I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died – And so it continues”. Earlier today, Zelensky slammed Trump, accusing him of being stuck in a Russian “disinformation bubble”.
Zelenskyy’s Approval Rating
Trump claimed that Zelenskyy’s rating was just four per cent. However, a latest poll put his approval rating at 57 per cent. Dismissing Donald Trump’s claims, Zelenskyy on Wednesday asserted that the Republican leader is trapped in a disinformation bubble created by Russia against him.
Appeal for Truth About Ukraine
Zelenskyy commented he “would like Trump’s team to have more truth about Ukraine,” adding that no one in Ukraine trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin.
US-Russia Relations
In a significant international diplomatic development, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met in Saudi Arabia’s capital on Tuesday and agreed to improve bilateral relations between their countries, which have recently hit rock bottom. As the first step toward mending ties, both sides agreed to work towards ending the Ukraine-Russia war.
Zelenskyy’s Displeasure
Immediately after the outcome of the meeting became public, Zelensky asserted no one can “decide anything behind our backs” and postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia in order to not give “legitimacy” to the Riyadh meeting. The US President, slamming this stance, accused his Ukrainian counterpart of “starting” the war.
