Swati Maliwal Slams Sunita Kejriwal’s Reaction

Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha MP, has sharply criticized Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, following a controversial social media post. Sunita Kejriwal expressed “relief” on X (formerly Twitter) after Bibhav Kumar, an aide of Arvind Kejriwal accused by Maliwal of assault, was granted bail by the Supreme Court.

Maliwal accused Kumar of assaulting her at the Chief Minister’s residence on May 13. Following her complaint, Kumar was arrested on May 18 but was recently released on bail after 100 days in judicial custody. The court emphasized that the injuries to Maliwal were “simple” and granted bail, noting it was not justified to keep Kumar in jail under these circumstances.

Reacting to Sunita Kejriwal’s social media post, which described Kumar’s bail as “a day of relief,” Maliwal expressed her outrage. She posted on X in Hindi, accusing the Chief Minister’s wife of finding solace in the release of someone who assaulted her. She stated, “The Chief Minister’s wife, who was home during my assault, is relieved. This is a clear message that it’s okay to assault women; AAP will ruin the survivor’s image and hire top lawyers to protect the assaulter.”

Maliwal, who has often been at odds with AAP since the incident, criticized the party’s approach to the assault case, highlighting a deepening rift within the political landscape. The controversy gained further traction when Maliwal shared an iconic image from the Mahabharata depicting Draupadi’s disrobing, emphasizing her stance against the perceived injustice.

Maliwal’s criticism has sparked discussions about the political and social dynamics surrounding women’s safety and accountability within powerful circles. She concluded her post by asserting that justice will prevail, stating, “How can we expect respect for our sisters and daughters from those who find solace in such incidents? Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has downplayed the incident, with Delhi Minister Atishi referring to Maliwal as a “pawn” of the opposition BJP, highlighting ongoing tensions and political rivalries.
