Ratan Tata’s Dog Goa Pays Final Tribute by His Casket
Ratan Tata’s loyal dog, Goa, paid his last respects to the legendary industrialist on October 10, capturing the emotions of a heartfelt bond.
As mourners gathered to bid farewell to Tata at the lawns of the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai, one of the most emotional scenes was the presence of Goa. The black dog, with white paws and a white patch on its nose and forehead, was seen quietly sitting beside Ratan Tata’s casket, draped in the Tricolor.
Goa, wearing a red collar and wagging his tail incessantly, refused to leave Tata’s side, clinging to the spot next to the casket. The poignant video of the grieving dog paying respects went viral on social media, leading many to wonder about the story behind his unique name, ‘Goa.’
The Story of Goa: More than Just a Dog
Goa is not just any dog; he has a backstory that resonates with Ratan Tata’s character and values. Years ago, during a trip to Goa, a stray dog began to follow Tata.
What might have been an ordinary encounter turned into something special for the kind-hearted industrialist. Deeply moved by the dog’s loyalty, Tata spontaneously decided to adopt him, bringing him to Mumbai. He named him Goa and provided shelter at Bombay House, the head office of the Tata Group.
Goa’s caretaker recalled, “Goa has been with us for the last 11 years. The security guards brought this dog from Goa when we went there for a picnic. Ratan Tata loved him a lot.”
Choosing Pets over Accolades
One remarkable example of Ratan Tata’s love for dogs was shared by his close friend, businessman Suhel Seth.
In 2018, Tata was slated to receive a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Royal Family. However, he made the difficult decision to stay home to care for his ailing dog. “Tango and Tito, my dogs—one of them has fallen terribly ill. I can’t leave him and come,” Tata told Seth, who was waiting for him in London.
When King Charles learned of Tata’s absence, he expressed admiration for the industrialist.
