Ratan Tata, an industrial icon and the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86. He had been undergoing treatment at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital for a prolonged illness. Ratan Tata, who shaped the Indian industry landscape, has left an indelible mark with his vision and leadership.
Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed his deep sorrow, stating, “With the passing of Ratan Tata, we have lost an extraordinary leader who not only shaped the Tata Group but also the nation itself.” Chandrasekaran also called Ratan Tata a “mentor and guide.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Ratan Tata, describing him as a “visionary business leader and a compassionate human being.” Modi highlighted Tata’s commitment to improving society beyond his business achievements.
State Funeral for Ratan Tata
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that Ratan Tata would be accorded a state funeral, with the state observing a day of mourning in his honor. His funeral will be held at Mumbai’s Worli crematorium after a public viewing at the National Centre for Performing Arts.

Ratan Tata was the driving force behind Tata Group’s global expansion. Under his leadership, Tata Group acquired several major international companies, including Tetley, Corus Steel, and Jaguar Land Rover.
