Aakhir Tak – In Depth
In light of the recent surge in bomb threats targeting Indian airlines, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu addressed the nation, assuring them that the government is in control of the situation. In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Naidu emphasized, “We are following all necessary protocols, and there is nothing to fear.” Over the past nine days, more than 170 flights have been affected by these threats, primarily originating from social media platforms.
When asked whether these threats are part of a larger conspiracy, Naidu urged caution, stating, “I wouldn’t make any hasty decisions on this.” He reiterated that it will take thorough investigations to determine if a conspiracy exists. The minister highlighted the role of social media and cyber channels, noting that while many IP addresses point to foreign locations, they could be rerouted through VPNs.
Naidu explained, “It is not exactly my purview to tell where exactly it is coming from. However, we are putting all the efforts required to ensure that our skies are safe.” He acknowledged the financial toll on airlines, estimating losses at Rs 600 crore due to disruptions.
To bolster security, the government has implemented enhanced measures at airports, increased surveillance, and additional checks. “We are improving security aspects at the airports and not taking anything lightly,” Naidu stated.
The minister also revealed plans to place individuals behind these hoax threats on a no-fly list. Furthermore, he mentioned amendments to the Swastika Act, which governs unlawful activities related to civil aviation, to impose stricter penalties on those responsible for such threats.
Naidu concluded by reassuring the public that this is not a moment to spread fear. “I would like to tell the people of the country that there is nothing to fear. We are in control of the situation.”
