Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi marked her political debut on Wednesday by signing her nomination papers for the upcoming Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election. Accompanied by her brother Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leaders, she will hold a roadshow in Wayanad before officially filing her nomination. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, will also be present for the filing.
The by-election for the Wayanad seat was necessitated after Rahul Gandhi, who won both Wayanad and Raebareli in the Lok Sabha elections, vacated the Wayanad seat. Priyanka Gandhi’s candidacy is seen as a significant moment for the Congress party, with hopes high among supporters.
Ahead of the nomination, Priyanka Gandhi, along with Sonia Gandhi, arrived in Wayanad on Tuesday, meeting local party leaders. Rahul Gandhi joined later, expressing his support for his sister’s candidature. “Wayanad holds a special place in my heart, and I can’t think of a better representative than Priyanka Gandhi to carry forward its voice in Parliament,” he said.
Priyanka will be up against BJP’s Navya Haridas and senior CPI leader Sathyan Mokeri, representing the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in this bypoll.
