Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a significant bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. This meeting comes after a major breakthrough in the four-year-long military standoff between India and China over disputed areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. The bilateral talks mark the first formal interaction between the two leaders in five years.
Just two days ago, India confirmed a truce with China to resume patrolling in the disputed areas, restoring the pre-2020 situation along the LAC. The scheduled meeting will take place between 4:10 PM to 5:10 PM IST.
Earlier, on Tuesday night, both leaders attended a formal dinner hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin for the BRICS leaders. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the meeting and emphasized that the focus would initially be on ensuring disengagement in the conflict zones, with the next step being troop de-escalation.
