Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roundtable meeting in New York with leading CEOs from global tech companies. Following this meeting, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and urged tech leaders to do more in the AI sector to ensure that “it benefits the people of India.”
Pichai noted that Google’s vision aligns with PM Modi’s “Digital India” initiative. He added, “Prime Minister Modi encouraged us to continue designing and manufacturing in India. We are proud to now have our Pixel phones made in India.”
Pichai praised PM Modi’s forward-thinking approach to AI. He said, “PM Modi is really thinking about how AI can transform India in ways that benefit its people. He challenged us to explore AI applications in healthcare, education, and agriculture, while also emphasizing the nation’s infrastructure needs—whether data centers, power, or energy—so that India can lead in the AI field.”
He also elaborated on Google’s commitment to AI development in India. “We are proud to partner with India. We are making significant AI investments here and look forward to doing more. Several programs and partnerships are already underway,” said Pichai.
He emphasized that PM Modi has continually pushed them to contribute more to India’s development, especially in AI.
“His leadership focuses on making AI work for the greater good of India’s people,” Pichai concluded.
The roundtable was held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel on Sunday, the second day of PM Modi’s three-day visit to the US. IBM’s CEO Arvind Krishna and Moderna Chairman Noubar Afeyan were among the attendees.
On X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi posted, “Had a fruitful roundtable with tech CEOs in New York, discussing aspects relating to technology, innovation, and more. Also highlighted India’s strides in this field. Glad to see immense optimism toward India.”
