Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
Shiv Sena MLA from Palghar, Srinivas Vanga, who went missing after being denied a ticket for the Maharashtra elections, has contacted his family after 36 hours. His wife, Suman Vanga, confirmed that he returned home at around 3 a.m., met with the family briefly, and then left, stating he would be away for two days.
On Tuesday, Vanga left without informing anyone and cut off all communication, leaving his family anxious about his safety. Following a complaint from the family, police launched a search for the missing MLA. This incident follows Shiv Sena’s announcement of former MP Rajendra Gavit as its candidate for the Palghar seat, sidelining Vanga, the sitting MLA.
Vanga expressed regret over his split from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena in 2022, accusing Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of failing to honor his commitment to protect loyal members.
After the death of his father, BJP MP Chintamani Vanga, Srinivas Vanga was expected to contest the 2018 Palghar Lok Sabha bypoll. However, the BJP gave the ticket to Rajendra Gavit, a former Congressman who went on to win the seat in both 2018 and 2019.
Maharashtra’s 288-seat Assembly election is scheduled for November 20, with vote counting on November 23.
