Pakistani-Canadian Set on Fire in Surrey, Canada: Involvement in Nijjar Protests
A Pakistani-Canadian businessman was tragically set on fire in Surrey, British Columbia. Rahat Rao, known for his active participation in protests following the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, is currently in critical condition.
On Friday, a man believed to be between 24 and 25 years old attacked Rao, leading to severe burns. The Canadian Police have released a photograph of the suspect involved in this heinous act. Initial investigations reveal that Rao is not affiliated with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), contrary to some speculations.
Rao had been a prominent figure in various demonstrations in Canada since the assassination of Nijjar on June 18 last year. Nijjar was gunned down outside a gurdwara in Surrey and was among the 41 individuals named by the Indian government as ‘designated terrorists’. His killing has significantly strained diplomatic relations between India and Canada.
The situation escalated when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged in September that Indian government agents might have been involved in Nijjar’s death. India dismissed these claims as “absurd” and “motivated”, leading to further diplomatic tensions.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are actively investigating Nijjar’s murder, with ongoing inquiries into the recent attack on Rao.
