Among the 323 eligible feature films, seven Indian entries include “Kanguva” (Tamil), “Aadujeevitham” (Malayalam), “Santosh” (Hindi), “Swatantrya Veer Savarkar” (Hindi), “All We Imagine as Light” (Malayalam-Hindi), “Girls Will Be Girls” (Hindi-English), and “Putul” (Bengali). The historic entry of “Putul” into the Best Picture category marks the first time a Bengali film has achieved this feat.

Directed by Indira Dhar, “Putul” has set a remarkable example for regional Indian cinema. Speaking about the achievement, Dhar stated, “This recognition celebrates dreamers who dare to believe. I owe this success to my team and supporters.” She further emphasized the significance of the film being her directorial debut.

Anuja, an Indian-rooted short film executive produced by two-time Oscar-winner Guneet Monga, has been shortlisted in the Live Action Short Film category. Unfortunately, India’s official submission, “Laapataa Ladies,” did not advance in the Best International Feature Film category.
