National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah is set to be sworn in as the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, marking the formation of a new government in the Union Territory after a decade. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, where Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will administer the oath to Abdullah and his cabinet ministers.

Leaders of the opposition INDIA alliance, including Congress’s Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are expected to attend the event. The NC and Congress pre-poll alliance secured a majority in the 95-member assembly, with NC winning 42 out of 90 seats and Congress securing 6. Independent MLAs and an MLA from the Aam Aadmi Party have also extended their support to the alliance.

This will be Omar Abdullah’s second term as Chief Minister, his first being from 2009 to 2014 when Jammu and Kashmir was still a state. The region is getting a new government for the first time since Article 370 was revoked. Addressing the press, Abdullah emphasized that his government will focus on addressing the grievances of the people and restoring hope in governance.

Several prominent opposition leaders, including Mamata Banerjee, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav, and Lalu Prasad Yadav, have been invited to attend the ceremony. However, it remains unclear who will be present at the event.
