Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Cyclone Dana has caused severe rainfall and subsequent flooding in Odisha, putting the state on high alert. In response, the Odisha government has launched an extensive evacuation drive across Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts to move residents to safer locations. The evacuation effort has safeguarded over 800,000 people, with around 110,770 currently housed in relief camps. These camps are providing necessary food and amenities for those affected.
According to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi, power has been restored in approximately 92% of the affected areas. Flooding has severely impacted 20 villages in Balasore district. The government plans to assess crop damage and overall loss once the rain ceases.
In West Bengal, Kolkata witnessed improving weather on Sunday, although districts like Hooghly, Bankura, and Jhargram still remain waterlogged. Agricultural fields, particularly those with rice and potato crops, have sustained extensive damage due to the flooding.
