Nayab Singh Saini is likely to take oath as the Chief Minister of Haryana on October 15. This announcement follows the BJP’s stunning victory in the Assembly polls, where they won 48 out of 90 seats. Saini, who led his party to a record third consecutive win in the Haryana Assembly elections, is set to return as Chief Minister.
A 10-member committee has been formed by the state chief secretary to oversee the arrangements for the oath-taking ceremony. This committee will be headed by the Panchkula District Commissioner. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top leaders, including Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, are expected to attend the ceremony.
During the elections, the BJP indicated that Nayab Singh Saini, who replaced Manohar Lal Khattar as Chief Minister in March, would be their choice for the top post if they secured victory. Saini belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC), which is a significant vote bank in the state.
Earlier this week, Nayab Singh Saini and other newly-elected BJP MLAs from Haryana met with senior party leadership in Delhi. Saini also had discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, and Union Minister JP Nadda.
Defying a decade of anti-incumbency and contradicting exit poll predictions, the BJP achieved its best-ever performance in Haryana, winning 48 seats. The Congress party, which was anticipating a comeback, finished with 37 seats.
The JJP, which was allied with the BJP from 2019 until March 2024, faced a significant setback. The AAP failed to secure any seats, and the INLD managed to win just two. Three independents, including Savitri Jindal, also won and have decided to support the BJP.
