Mihir Shah, accused in a Mumbai hit-and-run case, made 40 calls to his girlfriend after the incident. He hid in various resorts across Maharashtra to evade arrest. Shah rammed his BMW into a woman in Mumbai’s Worli area on July 7, killing her. Before his arrest, Shah traveled across Maharashtra, staying in resorts while the police searched for him.
Upon learning about the accident, Shah’s girlfriend called his sister Pooja. Pooja picked him up from Goregaon and took him home to Borivali. Later, Shah and three family members, along with a friend, Avdeep, left for a resort in Thane. After a few hours, they moved to another resort in Murbad. By Monday evening, Shah and Avdeep went to a resort in Virar, while others stayed in Shahapur.
Shah was arrested on Tuesday after a 72-hour statewide manhunt. The police tracked him when Avdeep switched on his phone for 15 minutes. Before reaching Virar, Shah had traveled to Nashik, Igatpuri, Ganeshpuri, and Thane.
The Mumbai Police questioned Shah and BMW driver Rajrishi Bidawat together. They recreated the crime scene from CJ House Worli to Sea Link Worli. Shah confessed to his crime and expressed remorse. While absconding, Shah hid his mobile phone, which the police are still searching for. The police also recovered 12 mobile phones from Shah’s friends and family members.
Shah is the son of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Rajesh Shah. He admitted to driving at the time of the accident but denied being drunk. The luxury car driven by Shah hit a two-wheeler, killing Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injuring her husband Pradeep. Shah was sent to police custody for seven days until July 16.
