- Mahadev app mastermind Saurabh Chandrakar arrested in Dubai.
- The app is involved in over Rs 5,000 crore fraud related to illegal betting.
- Extradition process to India expected to begin soon.
Saurabh Chandrakar, the mastermind behind the Mahadev online betting app, has been arrested in Dubai. His arrest occurred on Friday, following a Red Notice issued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Mahadev app is accused of defrauding people of over Rs 5,000 crore through illegal betting activities.
According to sources, the extradition process has already started, and it is expected that Chandrakar could be returned to India within a week. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been notified about the arrest. Along with Chandrakar, another promoter of the app, Ravi Uppal, was placed under “house arrest” late last year.
The Mahadev app operates through a network of panel operators across India, allegedly laundering money from illegal betting activities. Chandrakar is also suspected of having links to the D Company.
Cases against the Mahadev app have been registered in several states, with ongoing investigations into its operations. The ED has arrested a total of 11 people in this case, and two charge sheets have been filed, including against the two promoters. The Chhattisgarh Police are also investigating the case.
The ED’s investigation has revealed that the Mahadev Online Book App is run from a central head office in the UAE. It operates by franchising “Panel/Branches” to known associates on a 70-30 percent profit ratio.
Large-scale hawala operations are conducted to siphon off betting proceeds to offshore accounts. Significant cash expenditures are also being made in India for advertising betting websites to attract new users and franchise (panel) seekers.
