Aakhir Tak – In Shorts: Both Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) have sought Sharad Pawar’s help to resolve seat-sharing disputes. Leaders from both parties have contacted NCP (Sharad Pawar) to mediate. Consensus on crucial seats in the Vidarbha region remains elusive.
Aakhir Tak – In Depth: Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) are turning to Sharad Pawar for mediation in their ongoing seat-sharing disputes. According to sources, leaders from both parties are reaching out to the NCP (Sharad Pawar) chief. Following a nine-hour marathon meeting at the Trident Hotel in Mumbai on Saturday, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders have yet to agree on significant seats in the Vidarbha region.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Anil Parab and Aaditya Thackeray met Sharad Pawar at the YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai. Senior Congress leaders are also trying to stay in constant touch with Pawar. During the Lok Sabha elections, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction allocated its Ramtek and Amravati seats to the Congress. Now, the party wants more seats in the assembly polls as part of the MVA alliance.
Shiv Sena (UBT) claims a total of 12 seats in the Vidarbha region. The party argues that there are no existing MLAs from the MVA on these 12 seats. These have become contentious points within the MVA:
- Armory – Krishna Gajbe, BJP MLA
- Gadchiroli – Devral Holi, BJP MLA
- Gondia – Vinod Aggarwal, Independent MLA
- Bhandara – Independent MLA Narendra Bondekar
- Chimur – Kirtikumar Bhangadia, BJP MLA
- Ballarpur – Sudhir Mungantiwar, BJP MLA
- Chandrapur – Kishore Jorgewar, Independent MLA
- Ramtek – Ashish Jaiswal, Independent MLA (supporting the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena group)
- Kamthi – Currently Tekchand Savarkar, BJP MLA
- South Nagpur – Mohan Mate, BJP MLA
- Aheri – Dharmarao Baba Atram, NCP Ajit Pawar group MLA
- Bhadravati Varora – Congress MLA Pratibha Dhanorkar (currently an MP in Lok Sabha)
While claiming these 12 seats, Congress insists on contesting from the Nashik West seat, where Shiv Sena (UBT) has almost finalized Sudhakar Badgujar’s candidature. When Congress’s Nana Patole pressed for Nashik West, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut decided to walk out of the night meeting.
