Jay Shah’s Leadership: Major Changes and New Initiatives in ICC
Jay Shah, the current secretary of the BCCI, is poised to take over as the new International Cricket Council (ICC) chief from December 1. Recently, the ICC Board proposed changes to the tenure of the chief, extending it to a three-year term, renewable for a second term. This will enable Shah to serve as the ICC chief for three years, with an option to seek re-election for a second term if approved by the board.
Boosting Women’s Cricket: ICC’s New Initiatives
To enhance the competitiveness of smaller cricket-playing nations, the ICC has introduced annual T20 International tournaments for women’s cricket starting in 2025. This initiative prepares for the expansion of women’s cricket between 2028 and 2031. These tournaments will provide structured competition for 24 teams, helping to shape the path for the 2030 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Women’s FTP and ODI Ranking Changes
The ICC has also approved the 2025-2029 Women’s Future Tours Programme (FTP), and from now on, the annual update of the ODI rankings for women’s teams will occur on May 1. Teams will be required to play a minimum of eight matches to remain in the rankings, further promoting international women’s cricket.
