Jammu and Kashmir Terrorist Encounters: 3 Killed in Kupwara and Rajouri

Three terrorists were killed in two separate encounters along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed that two terrorists were neutralized in the Machil sector and another in the Tangdhar sector.

The encounters began after security forces detected suspicious movements in the area on the night of August 28-29. In Rajouri district’s Lathi village, another operation is ongoing, where three to four terrorists are believed to be hiding. The forces are continuing to engage with the militants in a tense standoff.

The security operations were launched based on intelligence inputs about potential infiltration attempts. The 57 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched the first operation in Tangdhar, and another was started in the Machil sector shortly afterward. In the Rajouri encounter, the militants were first detected near Kheri Mohra Lathi village, and contact was made at around 11:45 pm.

The encounters occur ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with results expected on October 4. As security forces continue their efforts, additional reinforcements have been sent to maintain control and prevent further infiltration.
