Aakhir Tak – In Depth
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of displaying a “dual character” by boycotting the Union Territory’s Foundation Day. This boycott prompted the National Conference and Congress to assert that they do not recognize Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory.
Sinha stated, “Those who took oath as MLAs of a Union Territory are now boycotting it. This reflects their dual character.” His remarks followed Omar Abdullah’s pledge to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, arguing that dignity and identity were more crucial than mere infrastructure.
Congress leader Tariq Hameed Karra and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti supported the boycott, with Mufti calling it a “black day” and demanding the return of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
This controversy follows the 2019 revocation of Article 370, which ended the state’s special status and led to its reorganization as a Union Territory.
