On Tuesday, an Israeli airstrike on the Syrian capital Damascus resulted in the death of seven civilians, including women and children, and injured 11 others. The attack targeted a residential building in the Mezuzah suburb, located to the west of Damascus, according to Syrian state media. The airstrike also caused “grave” material damage to surrounding private properties.
Military sources stated that three missiles were used in the strike, launched from the direction of the Golan Heights. Syria’s air defenses reportedly intercepted several “hostile” targets, but some missiles reached their intended targets.
Israel has been conducting strikes on Iran-linked targets in Syria for years. However, these strikes have intensified since the October 7 attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas, which led to the ongoing Gaza war, further escalating regional tensions.
