Aakhir Tak – In Depth:
Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian military targets pose a risk of escalating the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Currently, Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon are engaged in combat with Israel. The Israeli military launched direct airstrikes as retaliation for a missile attack from Iran. Tehran confirmed that two of its soldiers were killed in the Israeli strikes.
Iran reported “limited damage” from the attacks, with Israel declaring the operation as ‘Operation Days of Repentance.’ An Israeli army spokesperson indicated that if Iran commits further provocations, Israel would be obliged to respond.
The Iranian army stated that its defense systems effectively countered Israel’s strikes. An Iranian official warned of a “proportional response” to Israel’s “aggression.”
In response to the escalating tensions, Iran has canceled all flights, and Israel closed its airspace to civilian aviation. The United States was informed by Israel ahead of the strikes, but did not participate in the operation.
This long-anticipated Israeli attack comes weeks after Iran’s missile barrage on October 1, which involved an estimated 180 ballistic missiles targeted at Tel Aviv and Israeli airbases. Concurrently, the Israeli army targeted multiple locations in Iraq and Syria.
