In a significant development, Israeli forces confirmed the assassination of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah following a precise airstrike in Beirut. According to a report by French newspaper “Le Parisien,” a crucial tip-off from an Iranian spy led to this successful operation. The tip, received just hours before the airstrike, pinpointed Nasrallah’s location at Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in southern Beirut, where he was holding a meeting with senior members of the group.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the operation on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world.” Later in the day, Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death, stating, “Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has joined his martyr comrades whom he led for about 30 years.”
The report also revealed that another top Hezbollah leader, Nabil Kaouk, was killed in the same airstrike. Although Hezbollah has not officially commented on Kaouk’s death, supporters have flooded social media with mourning messages for him.
Lebanon’s health ministry reported that 33 people were killed in the Israeli airstrikes, which have intensified over the last two weeks. The ongoing conflict has claimed over 1,000 lives, with more than 6,000 people injured in Lebanon alone. The ministry, however, did not provide a breakdown of civilian and combatant casualties.
Nasrallah, in a recent televised address, acknowledged that Hezbollah had suffered an “unprecedented blow” following a series of Israeli strikes involving explosive-rigged pagers and walkie-talkies. The attacks resulted in 37 deaths and nearly 3,000 injuries over two days.
In response, Hezbollah vowed to retaliate, promising “tough retribution and just punishment, in both expected and unexpected ways.” An investigation by Lebanese authorities confirmed that Israeli forces had booby-trapped communication devices used by Hezbollah, further weakening the group’s communication network.
This series of strikes marks a critical moment in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, with both sides preparing for escalating tensions in the region.
