Iran Envoy Warns Israel of Reprisal After Missile Strike
Iran’s Ambassador to India, Iraj Elahi, on Friday, stated that Iran’s recent missile strike on Israel aimed to bring stability to the Middle East, emphasizing that it had damaged Israel’s military installations. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Elahi criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government for violating human principles by bombing Gaza during the conflict with Hamas.
Elahi said, “Iran’s missile attack has pushed the Middle East towards stability. The intention of Iran was deterrence.”
On October 1, Iran launched 200 missiles at Israel in retaliation for the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and the assassination of top Hamas figure Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The Iranian envoy labeled Israel an “occupying power” and stated that the strikes on Israel’s airbases had impacted its military capacity. He further claimed that Israel’s Iron Dome defense system failed to intercept Iranian missiles.
“Iran’s strikes have weakened the military capability of this illegal regime,” he said.
Following Iran’s unprecedented attack, Israel has vowed retaliation, sparking fears of an escalated conflict in the volatile Middle East. There is speculation that Israel may target Iran’s military or nuclear sites. However, Elahi expressed confidence that Israel would avoid extreme measures that could provoke a stronger Iranian response.
“They will not force Iran to react. Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in its defense capabilities. We hope Israel’s advisers or the U.S. will prevent an attack on our nuclear facilities,” he added.
The ambassador emphasized that Iran is no longer the Iran of 1981, referring to the era when Saddam Hussein invaded. “This is a technological war. We have learned from our first operation in April and used a new generation of missiles. If Israel attacks, we will deploy another generation of our missiles,” Elahi warned.
