In the first Test between India and Bangladesh, Jasprit Bumrah delivered yet another unforgettable performance. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Bumrah’s pace attack dismantled Bangladesh’s batting lineup, restricting them to just 149 runs. On Friday, a total of 17 wickets fell, allowing India to extend their lead to 308 runs.
India’s first innings ended at 376, largely thanks to a crucial partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Bumrah, known for his lethal bowling, started strong by dismissing opener Shadman Islam in the very first over. Bangladesh’s start was poor, and their batting lineup quickly crumbled under pressure.
Despite their historic 2-0 series win in Pakistan, Bangladesh’s top-order once again failed to deliver. Veteran batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan couldn’t stand against India’s superior bowling unit, with Mohammed Siraj adding to their troubles by dismissing captain Najmul Shanto.
Rohit Sharma showcased his tactical acumen throughout the day, making strategic bowling changes that kept Bangladesh under constant pressure. The partnership between Shakib and Litton Das provided some resistance but was eventually broken by Ravindra Jadeja, followed by a brain fade moment from Shakib, who was dismissed while attempting a reverse sweep.
Bumrah returned to clean up the tail, ending with impressive figures and crossing the milestone of 400 international wickets, becoming the 10th Indian bowler to achieve this feat.
India is in a strong position to clinch another home victory, thanks to Bumrah’s exceptional bowling and Rohit Sharma’s tactical brilliance.
