A woman Flying Officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) has accused a Wing Commander at an Air Force Station in Jammu and Kashmir of rape, mental harassment, and continuous stalking. The IAF has initiated an internal inquiry into the case.
According to the complainant, the incident occurred on the night of December 31, 2023, during a New Year’s party at the Officers’ mess. The officer allegedly sexually assaulted her in his room after the celebrations.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered an FIR based on the woman officer’s complaint. The case has been filed against the Wing Commander at Budgam Police Station under Section 376(2) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with aggravated rape committed by persons in positions of authority.
In a statement, the IAF mentioned that the Budgam Police Station approached the concerned Air Force Station for investigation, and the IAF is fully cooperating with the authorities.
It is worth noting that in a similar incident in 2021, an IAF woman pilot approached the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, alleging sexual harassment by her Flight Commander.
