Aakhir Tak – In Depth
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has dismissed Congress’s allegations on irregularities in the recent Haryana Assembly elections, calling the claims “baseless.” Congress raised concerns over EVMs showing 99 percent battery status during counting, suggesting potential tampering and intentional delays in the counting process. The EC advised political parties to avoid “unfounded and sensational complaints” during critical times like polling and counting, as such claims could disrupt social order.
In its statement, the ECI said, “We categorically reject the baseless allegations by Congress regarding the Haryana Assembly election process, emphasizing that such claims may lead to public unrest.” The commission expressed that it expects responsible conduct from national parties, stressing that unfounded accusations could undermine democratic integrity.
Additionally, the EC condemned Congress’s trend of questioning electoral outcomes based on “generic doubts” when results don’t favor the party. Without evidence of any procedural lapse, the EC urged Congress to refrain from such claims, as it could harm public trust in the electoral process.
Despite Congress’s concerns, the BJP secured a victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress won 37. The Election Commission assured that the electoral process remains credible and free from manipulation, rejecting all allegations raised by Congress.
