Senior DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister Durai Murugan has responded sharply to superstar Rajinikanth’s recent comment on the “old guard” of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). During a book launch event, Rajinikanth had praised Chief Minister MK Stalin for effectively managing the senior members of the DMK after his father Karunanidhi’s death, but his remarks didn’t sit well with Murugan.

“For a school teacher (Stalin), handling new students isn’t a problem at all. But managing the old students (senior leaders) is not an easy task. Here (in DMK), there are many old students. These are not normal students. They are all rank holders. How to manage all of them? Especially people like Durai Murugan. Stalin sir, hats off to you,” Rajinikanth had said.

In what appears to be a retort to Rajinikanth, Murugan stated, “In a similar situation, young artists are not getting any chances because old actors are still clinging to their roles, even after growing beards and losing all their teeth.” His comments have sparked widespread discussion, with many interpreting them as a pointed jab at Rajinikanth.

The controversy stems from the actor’s praise of Stalin’s leadership in the DMK, where he also mentioned how the party has seen continuous electoral successes under Stalin’s leadership. Rajinikanth had noted that after Karunanidhi’s death, Stalin has been successful in carrying forward his father’s legacy, which many other political heirs struggle to do.
